In today’s world EQ (Emotional Quotient) is more desirable than IQ (Intelligence Quotient). Emotional Quotient comprises of various traits, however, the most important of all is the ability to communicate effectively with others.
Subscribers to the Harvard Business Review rated “the ability to communicate” as the most important factor in making an executive “promotable” – more important than ambition, education and the capacity for hard work.
One 20 year study that followed the progress of Stanford University MBAs’ revealed that the most successful graduates shared personality traits that distinguish good communicators. “A desire to persuade, an interest in talking with other people and an outgoing ascendant personality.”
What is communication?
It is the sending and receiving of ideas, thoughts or feelings from one person to one or more persons in such a way that the person receiving it understands it in the same way that the sender wants him/her to understand. Hence it is a two-way process for which the binding force is the feedback loop. Unless the receiver gives feedback – verbal or non-verbal – to the speaker, the speaker will not be able to continue the information for too long.
Communication can be broken down into 3 major areas:
1. Verbal
a. Spoken
b. Written
2. Non-Verbal
a. Body Language
3. Listening
a. Active Listening
b. Passive Listening
c. Reflective Listening
Tom Peter’s, business consultant and co-author of the book, ‘In Search of Excellence’, emphasizes that one key to business success is careful listening. “Find out what the customers’ really care about, and then act. Listening – that is the key.”
The most important type of listening is Active Listening. Active Listening goes beyond regular listening as the listener encourages both the share of information as well as feelings. Active Listening is the key to building relationships as it displays genuine interest.
Passive Listening is appropriate when there is a key note speaker who does most of the talking and the audience is in the training or education mode.
Reflective Listening is appropriate when the person is worried, frustrated, confused or upset. It is about acknowledging the feeling more than the content. You reflect or echo what the person seems to be feeling by saying something like – “It seems as if these instructions are a little confusing and thus frustrating.”
Here is an instance of poor listening:
A devout Hindu in USA ordered a snack at his local Taco Bell (a fast food place that sells Mexican food). Because eating beef is forbidden in his religion, he emphasized twice to the person at the counter that he wanted a burrito containing only beans and not meat. After taking a bite of the burrito, he discovered to his horror that the burrito contained beef and not beans.
The customer later sued (and won) Taco Bell for millions of dollars claiming emotional distress as well as medical expenses and loss of wages.
By improving our listening we can make a dramatic impact on our communication skills thereby positively affecting all aspects of our life.
“Communication is really all anyone ever gets paid for ultimately…..and if you cannot effectively communicate……you will PAY….and not get paid.” Doug Firebaugh

Dog Training Method Using Collar and Leash Training
Posted by: | Comments
Leash Training is one of the most regular training method and the leash itself would perhaps is the most basic equipment used in training your dog.
Now here are some things you should think into before going into leash training which will help you to be more effective in training your dog:
1. You can begin leash training even when your dog is still a puppy. To Start leash training as early as the puppy stage will multiply the effectiveness enormously.
2. Purchase only a good quality of training leash and collar, do take care to ensure the correct size of the collar and the length of the leash. A good training collar is intended to put specific pressure whenever the leash is tightened. The leash must be made with strong material, you would not want to go chasing your dog around with broken leash.
3. Have patient with your dog. Different dogs react differently when they are put on leash for the first time. Some shows no problem while other might struggle at first. You can put on the leash on your dog even when you are not taking your dog for a walk; this will help him to be comfortable moving around with the leash.
4. You must understand that in collar and leash training, the leash become a way of communication and disciplining your dog, once you understand the use of the leash in dog training and you are comfortable in using it, then only you can begin your training effectively.
5. One of the easiest behaviors that you can train your dog with collar and leash training method will be to have your dog move properly on a lead. A well trained dog will be able to meet his pace with yours. You do not have to change your pace but instead your dog will have to adjust to your pace.
During the initial phase of the leash training, it is usual to find that your dog will charge ahead of you or slow down behind. In this case you need to give your dog a tug on the leash to tell him that he needs to adjust his pace. Once your dog reacted well, you need to relieve the pressure as soon as possible to show him that he has done well in obeying your tug.
6. Keep in mind that the leash is just one of the simple tools in dog training. Although the leash is a basic tool that is needed in this kind of training, you must know that there are many more tools out there available and you should make it your goalto learn and achieve the same great result in training your dog as when you are using the leash.
Finally, leash training can never be more effective than when it is implemented with your great relationship with your dog. The end objective is to get your dog to obey you even when they are not on leash. It will be a great attainment when you can just use your own hand or tone of voice to make your dog obey you.

What is Elimation Communication?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elimination_communication
(EC) is a practice in which a caregiver uses timing, signals, cues, and intuition to address an infant’s need to eliminate waste. Typically the goal is to partially or completely avoid the use of diapers. EC emphasizes communication between the caregiver and child, helping them both become more attuned to the child’s innate rhythms and control of urination and defecation. The term “elimination communication” was inspired by traditional practices of diaper-less baby care in less industrialized countries and hunter-gatherer cultures. Some practitioners of EC begin soon after birth, although it can be started with babies of any age

MLM Training – How Your Facial Expression Can Win Over or Turn Off Prospects
Posted by: | Comments
Successful communication with MLM business prospects is more than just what you say. While training thousands of people in my MLM downline I discovered what prospects respond to positively. This article describes what works best.
Ever wonder what you look like from someone else’s perspective?
It really is an interesting thing to ponder. Several times when I have been doing some MLM training, specifically communication training, with someone in my network marketing business, I’ve had to show them with a mirror what their face looks like.
The very second they see themselves in the mirror they immediately CHANGE THEIR FACIAL EXPRESSION. What do they change it to? The way they think they look to their MLM business prospects. Very often how they look versus how they think they look is very different.
If you’re one of those who love to people watch, the funniest people-watching situation is when you can sit near a mirror and watch people…look at themselves. It certainly would have made a great Candid Camera skit.
The reason I bring this up is that there is a group of characteristics an MLM business professional must have in order to truly have success in speaking with prospects.
I call these characteristics the 10 Communication Qualities. Once you’re fully knowledgeable about these qualities and have the proper and correct MLM training to learn them, you will be amazed at how much smoother conversations will go with your prospects.
The third quality on my list is to “have a sincere friendly facial expression.”
This third quality means when you’re talking with your prospect, have comfortable eye contact with a sincere, friendly facial expression.
If you are familiar with the other Communication Qualities, this should make completely logical sense to you. See, if you are truly interested in your prospect (1st quality) and you’re not distracted by anything in the environment (2nd quality) this also includes not being distracted by what’s going on INSIDE OF YOU – therefore because you are just simply interested in your prospect you can’t help but have a sincere friendly facial expression.
Oh sure, as your prospect talks your facial expression will change slightly based on what they’re telling you – but it will always revert back to SINCERE and FRIENDLY.
What stops a person from having this desired facial expression?
The number one reason is fear. As the distributor talks with their prospect they’re fearful of how the prospect will react to their MLM business…so their face (if they were to look in a mirror) would have the look of fear or concern. This concerned or worried look is describing what is going on in their head! Your facial expression expresses what you’re thinking.
The second thing that stops a person from having this desired facial expression is that they’ve been given some lame advice about mirroring and matching every move their prospect makes.
Or, the advice that you should always maintain eye contact and they take this to an extreme and end up boring holes through their prospect which intimidates the prospect.
And I should add that you should keep a friendly facial expression even when you’re on the phone, calling prospects. Even though they can’t see you, your expression carries through your voice and the words you say. Just be comfortable with your prospect and maintain comfortable eye contact with a sincere, friendly facial expression.
