How important is communication in relation to that “command presence” of a police officer? When a police officer walks into the room and calls out “jump” should everyone ask “how high”? What can we do to train an officer to have a commanding presence? Is it in the way he or she carries himself or herself?

Unlike the Military, civilians will never ask how high.
Command presence: Interesting?

I learned in the Military (1968) when promoted to be a Sergeant, “Respect can be Commanded or Demanded, but it is better when it is earned and gained.”

Be firm, fair and consistent with everyone.

Treat all people the way you would want to be treated if in the same situation?

Keep your word as your bond. It will come back to haunt you if you do otherwise.

From the Jail to the streets your legacy will follow you.

My daughter is her final year of school in India and is keen on pursuing a course related to writing or journalism. Most magazines and websites have a list of main stream courses but not much information related to journalism or other related courses. Are there any websites that list the colleges and courses available in the field of Mass Communication?

News paper
.
Phone book
.
If they don’t have any listing then you will have to go to another country to take a course

My boyfriend is going to be going through basic for the Army and I was wondering how I would or he would be able to communicate while there. I know he is going to be there fore 9 weeks and its seriously going to kill me if I won't be able to talk to him for that long. I hope that he will be able to make phone calls sometimes during basic. Just to hear his voice would be amazing but I would be happy with a letter too.
i know in all actuallity that 9 weeks really isn't that long and i know i have it easy compared to those that are across seas. its just gonna be hard not talking to him on the phone everyday and having him there for me every time i need him. i know i can do it. my great uncles were in the marines and i kinda know the life just from the stories my family has told me and i know im strong enough to do it. im in it for the long haul… its just scary ya know?

He might be able to call you a couple times and he might write a couple letters. He will be so busy and so so tried that sometimes on his free time he will want to sleep.

My advice to you, is to write him as often as you can. Keep his moral up, let him know what is going on with you and in the outside world. He will treasure those letters more than anything. I wrote my husband a letter a day when he was in basic. And some days I sent him two or three letters a day. I didn't know until about 7 weeks into Basic Training that he had to do 20 pushups for each letter he received. I told him that I would stop writing so much and he replied that I had better not. My letters were keeping him focused and connected to me and our daughter. So I wrote him more.

I will soon have a BS in Communications with a focus on video production. I have searched for ways to pursue a teaching career with this degree, even through taking additional courses in a career switcher program, but it seems like communications is the only degree that the education system will not respect concerning this line of work. Are there any options I am missing? If not then why has Communications been left out in the cold here?

I feel your pain. That was me 13 years ago. I walked out of school with a BSC in video production. 5 years ago, I wanted to change careers and start teaching. I tried my state's "alternate route" program, but no luck – districts will almost always pick a certified teacher with an education background. So I entered a combo certification/masters program at a local university. Sorry to say I tried to find other options to fast-track myself into the classroom, but it didn't work.

That being said, I'M SO GLAD I WENT BACK TO SCHOOL FOR EDUCATION BEFORE BEING THROWN INTO THE CLASSROOM. I didn't know squat about teaching, even though I thought I did. Going back to school made me a better candidate, and I ended up with a great teaching job in a great district.

Right now he calls me every Sunday, actually i just got off the phone with him, which is great. In AIT will he get his phone back and email or what?

During AIT they are given their cellphones back. So yes! Expect to hear from him more often!
