I can't stand these god damn courses. My employer regularly sends employees on personal deveopment courses (soft skills, communication, interpersonal etc.) I'm on a graduate programme so there is no way I can get out of attending them. But I just can't get involved in a bunch of people in suits doing dumb activities and "teambuilding" etc. I'm perfectly capable of communicating effectively on the job. But I'm also an introvert and consequently find it difficult to get involved in these courses as they are not 'real-life'.
Plus alot of people I work with are a bunch of toffs who live off daddy's money.
What's the best way not to get noticed in these activities. My main goal is to avoid being the 'group spokesperson'.
lol! Sit in the back of the room. Nod once in a while when the speakers make eye contact. Take a large binder, and act like you are taking notes. Bring a magazine you haven't read, and insert the magazine in the binder. Cover magazine with the useless literature they handout when they start moving in your direction.
Take "potty" breaks often, let the speaker know ahead of time in private you have a urinary track infection, and you want to be in the back of the room so you won't disturb everyone when you go to the restroom.
If the meeting is at a hotel, visit the bar during your "potty" breaks. Time your "potty" breaks so you can avoid role playing, and other crap you hate.

Effective communication?
Posted by: | CommentsWhat is ‘effective communication’ and Why has effective communication become so important for business?
You haven’t really effectively communicated your question, so I am not sure what the answer your looking for is. Hope that helps.

Do you consider integration of marketing communications to be a desirable thing? Given the difficulties in achieving integrated marketing communications, would it be better not to try?
At base level…integrated marketing communications is the execution of One Message and One Voice throughout all mediums in Marketing.
Is it desireable – yes. Is it doable yes. But for small businesses it may have to be executed over time.
One true way to ensure that this DOES happen (no matter what the size of the company) is to use one designer and one copywriter behind all communications.
Misc and Random Acts of Marketing DO NOT WORK! Trust me; I own an agency and when I started I agreed to take on any job I could that would bring business and money in the door – but MOST clients were NOT dedicated to the BIG PICTURE – and therefore could not make room for Integration. This hurt them – and as a result – hurt me too.
Today; I will not take on a single client unless they are fully prepared for carrying out long term strategy with my agency. (Which by the way is not selfish – it is the only way that my agency can guarantee or take responsibility for the results – no matter what they are).
Hope that was helpful.
